Giving Guest Lecture at the University of Texas - Austin (virtually)

TEACHING & MENTORING

2/1/2025

Last Thursday, I had the privilege of giving a guest lecture in the Human Dimension in Wildlife Conservation class at The University of Texas at Austin.

As a young professional navigating the path of environmental conservation, I shared my journey—highlighting the motivation, challenges, and lessons that have shaped my career so far. My aim was to provide students with a real-world perspective on establishing a foundation in this field and inspire them as they begin to carve out their own paths.

Sharing insights about integrating local communities’ perspectives into conservation planning was an incredibly rewarding experience. Our mission is not just about protecting wildlife—it's about understanding and integrating the diverse perspectives and values of the people who interact with these ecosystems.

A heartfelt thank you to Sharon Wilcox, Ph.D. for inviting me. I was impressed to see a diverse background in the class with even students in architecture and urban studies. Engaging with people who share a love for nature and are passionate about making this world a better place is always an honor!

If you're also passionate about the intersection of conservation and human dimensions or relevant topics, I’d love to connect and hear your thoughts.

”We were honored to have PT Nguyen-Nu join us as a guest lecturer in our Human Dimensions of Wildlife Conservation class this week at The University of Texas at Austin. Her talk was insightful and inspiring, offering valuable perspectives both into the value of social science in on-the-ground conservation and as a young professional finding her own path that resonates with her expertise, values, and interests. Thank you, PT!”
